DU Challenge January: ATLAS

For the first year's entry for a DU challenge, I thought I'd give you guys a first look at veteran Atlas pilot, Richard Hunt. Since this latest challenge is all about vehicles for characters, I guess this one kind of fits the bill for Richard Hunt and his unique vehicle, VanGuard. VanGuard is an ATLAS, a very powerful colossal mech, built in the 1960's to go up against a great threat known as the Sovereign. Whilst technically a vehicle, Richard Hunt would say otherwise as he treats VanGuard with the utmost respect, considering the titan of a machine as more of a friend then a weapon.

Of the 49 Atlases built, many of them are remembered historically for their great deeds during a desperate war, yet of them all only VanGuard remains, piloted by his first and only crew member, Richard Hunt. After nearly 50 years of retirement, both returned to duty during the darkest hours of Omega's Reign. Knowing this is the twilight of his life, Richard Hunt chooses to spend these finals years of his, once more serving with VanGuard to help those in need against the ever increasing threats that continue to plague the world.

Richard Hunt is just over 70 years old (age not yet fully specified), being in his youth during the Sovereign War in the 60's. I wanted to try and make him look older then this, but I settled with this look in the end to make him appear more capable despite his old age. One might argue he looks a bit young for 70, but the old man has just looked after himself very well in his long life. (That's what I'm going with )

Hopefully you'll see more of these two old war horses. I'm kinda tempted to make an alternative version of this image to boot, showing a younger Richard Hunt with a newer looking VanGuard. Maybe... if I have time Hope you guys like this image. I really like how this one turned out.

Richard Hunt & VanGuard belong to
